Three Systems. One Purpose: Combat Readiness.
American Bujutsu. American Combat Ju-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Every system taught at The Combat Factory is built for real-world effectiveness — not just trophies.
american bujutsu
A Complete Combat System — Developed in America, Built for the real world
American Bujutsu was developed by Brandon Emory after nearly 30 years of training, teaching, and real-world application. Drawing from the foundational principles of classical Bujutsu — the combative arts of the Japanese warrior — Emory rebuilt and refined this system through the lens of modern self-defense, law enforcement experience, and executive protection. The result is a comprehensive martial art purpose-built for the modern practitioner.
Students of American Bujutsu develop a complete combat skill set: striking, joint manipulation, throws, takedowns, ground control, and weapons awareness. This isn't a sport system with rules designed to protect competitors — it's a combat system designed to protect YOU. Whether you're standing, in the clinch, or on the ground, American Bujutsu prepares you to respond with confidence and capability.
- Developed by Brandon Emory — active practitioner with 30 years' experience
- Integrates striking, grappling, throws, and weapons awareness
- Rooted in classical Bujutsu principles, refined for modern threats
- No ruleset — no ring, no points, no limitations
American Combat Ju-Jitsu
Practical Grappling and Striking Integration for Real-World Defense
American Combat Ju-Jitsu is a no-nonsense hybrid system that merges the precision of traditional Jujutsu with modern combat grappling, clinch work, and striking. Unlike sport-focused grappling arts, ACJ is trained with one question in mind: does this work outside the gym? Every technique is tested against resisting partners and pressure-tested in controlled sparring to ensure it holds up when it matters most.
This system is built for all backgrounds. Whether you've never trained a day in your life or you're a seasoned practitioner looking to sharpen your edge, American Combat Ju-Jitsu meets you where you are. Classes develop functional grappling, takedown defense, ground survival, and integrated striking — the full package for anyone serious about real-world self-defense.
- Merges Jujutsu precision with modern combat grappling and striking
- Every technique pressure-tested against resisting partners
- Suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike
- Focus: real-world application, not competition rules
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Ground Mastery. Leverage Over Strength. Combat-First BJJ.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at The Combat Factory is taught with the same combat-first mindset that drives every program at this school. BJJ is one of the most battle-tested ground fighting systems in the world — proven in real altercations, law enforcement encounters, and combat sports alike. At its core, it teaches you to control, neutralize, and submit an opponent using leverage and body mechanics rather than brute strength.
Our BJJ curriculum is led by IBJJF-certified instructors and builds progressively from fundamental positions and escapes through advanced submission chains and guard passing sequences. You'll develop ground awareness, physical conditioning, problem-solving under pressure, and — critically — the confidence that comes from knowing you can handle yourself if a fight goes to the ground. BJJ classes at The Combat Factory also integrate seamlessly with American Bujutsu and American Combat Ju-Jitsu, giving students a complete stand-up-to-ground combat skill set.
- IBJJF certified-led instruction
- Leverage and technique over size and strength
- Builds progressively from fundamentals to advanced submissions
- Integrates with the full Combat Factory curriculum

Common Questions
Answers to the questions most new students ask before their first class.
Do I need prior martial arts experience?
No. All three programs at The Combat Factory are open to beginners. We start with fundamentals and build progressively. What we do require is a genuine attitude — show up ready to work.
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing you can move freely in — shorts or athletic pants and a t-shirt work fine. No gi is required to start. We'll let you know what gear to pick up as you progress.
How are classes structured?
Classes begin with a warm-up and conditioning segment, move into technical instruction (drilling techniques from the curriculum), and close with controlled sparring or situational drilling. Every class is purposeful — you'll always leave knowing you put in real work.
How is American Bujutsu different from traditional martial arts like Karate or Tae Kwon Do?
Traditional arts like Karate and Tae Kwon Do have enormous value, but many have evolved toward sport and performance. American Bujutsu was built from the ground up for combat effectiveness — not kata, not point sparring, not trophies. It integrates striking, grappling, weapons awareness, and situational tactics into a single cohesive system.
Is the environment intimidating for new students?
Demanding — yes. Intimidating — no. The Combat Factory is a private club with a serious culture. Everyone here started as a beginner. Respect is non-negotiable. You'll be challenged and pushed, but you won't be hazed, talked down to, or left behind.
